Sunday School Classes

There are several adult classes available, each with its own opportunity for growth and interpretation of the Bible. From time to time we also offer short term classes and start new classes.  For the most up to date information you may contact Rev. David Rucker at associate@cornerstoneumc.org

There is a class for everyone!  All classes have some degree of discussion which is non-threatening and non-coercive, but designed to allow participants to express their own views and ask questions as the class applies the lessons to personal lives and circumstances.  All adult classes are offered at 9:30 a.m. in the Education wing.  You are encouraged to visit any or all of the classes to fine one that is just right for you.  Join us Sunday’s to find one that fits YOU!

New Beginnings:

This Class includes persons of all ages and they meet in room 107. Going from the sanctuary take the first hall to the left (after class 105). They are currently studying the life of the Apostle Paul as told in the book of Acts of the Apostles and Paul’s letters to the churches. A study guide for any particular book can be emailed to you by contacting Wayne Copeland at 281-797-7796 or wayne236@comcast.net. There is always an emphasis on how to apply the lessons fro scripture to our daily lives.

Fellowship & Living Hope Classes:

These two classes are currently meeting together in room 106. From the sanctuary go left, just past the first hall to the left (after class 105) you will find class 106. They use a DVD based curriculum to present the topic then have discussion and interaction. The people range in age from 25 to 65. The DVD presentations are always grounded in Scripture but cover a wide range of topics from politics and current events to family and marriage issues, always striving to relate the information to one’s daily life. Currently they are studying a series by Andy Stanley called “What Makes You Happy: It’s Not What You’d Expect.” For more information, contact class facilitator, David Smith at 832-605-2942 or davidasmith@sbcglobal.net

New Class:

This study group is so new they haven’t come up with a name yet. They meet in room 108. Go left from the sanctuary and turn left at the first hall and it will be on your right. Led by Van Harwood, this class takes the theme of the morning sermon and looks at scripture that teaches that theme and how we can apply it to our lives. It is a way of reinforcing the sermon, but uses different scripture and hones in on one or two major ways the scripture applies to our lives. It is open to people of all ages and includes open discussion where everyone can contribute their ideas. For more information, contact Van and Teri Harwood at 713-962-4149 or teri.harwood@yahoo.com.

Bread of Life:

This Class meets in room 105 in the main hallway. This class consist mostly of persons who are 50+ who come from a variety of religious backgrounds and are seeking to more fully understand what it means to be a follower of Christ in the 21st century. They are in no hurry to get through a book of the Bible as they want to thoroughly discuss all the questions presented as they relate to the Scripture and daily living. They are currently studying a series by Adam Hamilton entitled “Why: Making Sense of God’s Will.“ The study addresses such questions as, Where is God when tragedy and suffering strike? and If God is all powerful, and if each one of us is a beloved child of God, then how can God allow tragedy and suffering to mar his creation? For more information, you may contact class facilitator, Bob Grundy at 832-573-0557 or bgrundy@earthlink.net

Cornerstone UMC 101:
