Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.
- Matthew 25:34-36

Cornerstone members serve God through a number of mission activities each year. These include such things as building homes for the poor in Mexico, helping out at BCAM, working with women's shelters.  We've also started helping Shadrack get the medical treatment he desperately needs.

CUMC 3rd Annual BBQ at Houston Intl Seafarers’ Center

Cornerstone UMC annually supports the Houston International Seafarers’ Center at the Port of Houston with a BBQ dinner and by collecting one gallon zip-lock bags filled with toiletries, socks, playing cards and other items that we give to the seamen that visit the Center while their ships are in port. We will be collecting the bags throughout the month of August in preparation for our BBQ event at the Center on September 6th from 6-9pm.  If you are interested in donating a bag for one of the seafarers please click here to see a printable list of items.  Left-click on the link to download the PDF file.

All bags should be dropped off at Cornerstone UMC by August 31st. For more information contact Bill Turner at 281-304-0445 or Michele Moura at 281-797-5828.

Shadrack Otieno is six years old, and he lives in Kibera, Kenya -- Africa's largest slum. Shadrack has faced many challenges in his young life.

He has grown up in an area of overwhelming poverty, where meeting even the most basic needs can be difficult or impossible.  Running water, electricity, sanitation services, and education are all scarce or too expensive for most residents.

Another challenge Shadrack has faced is being an orphan, though fortunately was raised by an aunt after his parents passed away.  Perhaps his biggest struggle, though, is that Shadrack has been suffering from seizures, headaches, and dizziness since he was two.  But the costs of medical care have been completely out of reach.  Thanks in large part to Cornerstone, all that has changed.

Shadrack - RainbowEnough money was raised in March to pay for Shadrack's surgery, which treated the brain abscess at the root of his problems.  Shadrack is now feeling great!  His concentration and memory skills have improved, which should come as no surprise.  He now has the life of a healthy boy that was unimaganeable only a few months ago.  To find out more, please visit www.HelpShadrack.org.

Shadrack - Thank You CornerstoneShadrack's teacher, and now guardian, is Margaret Nyabuto, who is director of the Tenderfeet Education Center.  Tenderfeet is a school for orphans and other vulnerable children facing the hardships of poverty and disease.

Ten for Tender FeetFor those wanting to continue making a huge difference in the lives of the people of Kibera, there is a sponsorship program for the school, called "Ten for Tenderfeet".

For only $10 per month, sponsors can help make sure that these sweet children have the care -- body, mind, and soul -- they need to give them a hopeful future.  To find out more, please visit www.TenderfeetKids.org.
