The Lord is Holding You

E-mail Print PDF

jesus_hugFor anyone who's ever been prepped for surgery, you know it's not a pleasant process. There are pokes and needles and the hospital room is always cold. And when you're pregnant it's even worse. The morning of my c-section for Zachary all I could think was, "It's a good thing I'm getting a baby out of this..." As many of you may know, Devin, an LCHS student is currently battling leukemia which she was first diagnosed with at 3 years of age and successfully beat. Devin's father, in an update to friends and family, wrote:

"I used to always say that I could handle just about anything except something happening to one of my kids.  So when Devin was 3 God decided he wanted to test that theory!  We realized back then that when things like this happen you don't have a choice, you just do what you have to do and move forward to work through it.  We've remembered those lessons and we'll just have to do it again."

I replayed the lyrics to the FFH song, Lord Move, or Move Me in my head about a gazillion times the morning of my c-section. "Lord I know the only way is through this; Lord I know I need you to help me do this." I'm betting Devin's family is praying like this a lot here lately. There are a lot of things we have to face in this life that are less than pleasant and sometimes the only option we have is to plow on through them. Be assured that whatever you're suffering today, the Lord is holding you in His hands and will continue to until you come out on the other side.

SEE YOU SUNDAY. XOXO--Kelly

A Need for Grace

E-mail Print PDF

grace3

When I walk into Cornerstone in the mornings for work or preschool,  I usually stop by the office downstairs and say hello to Glo and Linda.  As I open the office door, I always notice the sign on the small bulletin board on the door.  It says, Every Person You Meet has a Need for Grace.

It’s not always easy being graceful to other people.  Why?  Not every person is a joy to be around all the time.  (We can say that about ourselves sometimes, too.)  But why is it so hard for us to show the love and grace to others that God has shown to us?  For more information and a "grace challenge", click here to read the March edition of the Family Strength newsletter.

This week, Pastor Dave Meadows begins a Lenten sermon series about Jesus journey On the Road to Jerusalem.  Jesus first miracle was when He turn water into wine at a Wedding in Cana.  Listen as Pastor Dave helps each of us to understand how Jesus cares about our lives, can transform our lives and how His grace and love knows no bounds as demonstrated through this first miracle.

The Most Powerful Tool

E-mail Print PDF

Heart_-_Christ2Ghandi said, "Be the change you want to see in the world." Good advice to remind us that the most powerful tool we have is that of our example. The Lord is very clear on this.  In Matthew, chapter 22 Jesus answers that the first and greatest commandment is to love the Lord with all your heart and soul and mind and second is to love others as yourself.

We have to be the kind of people we want others around us to be. This doesn't mean we're not encouraging individualism.  Feel free to continue to wear converse tennis shoes with a skirt or dress if you want to (and your parents say it's okay) instead of copying the latest fashion trends.  Your clothes do not make you who you are.  Your heart does.  And if you want to make a difference with your friends, family, co-workers or the strangers in line with you at Walmart you have to start there.

SEE YOU SUNDAY.  XOXO -- Kelly

sermonEven Jesus Christ sometimes had a bad day.  When he returned to His Hometown of Nazareth, He wasn't received the way he really wanted to be received.  His Hometown people rejected him as the Messiah.  This week, Pastor Dave Meadows teaches us how to respond to a bad day in the same way Jesus responded.

God is First

E-mail Print PDF

God_Centered"God is first.  I am next.  Everyone else, take a ticket and get in line."  (Iyanla)

One of my favorite quotes, though I realize it might sound a little selfish.  After all, the  Bible reminds us to serve others, putting their needs before ourselves.  But as any good counselor or health professional will tell you, you've got to look out for yourself first and in faith this is no different.

You're not doing anyone any favors if you tackle service in God's name without the faith to back it up.  If we aren't straight with God, about what He's doing in our lives and what His plan for us is, then we can't possibly do all that we could otherwise do for someone else.  "I can do all things through CHRIST who strengthens ME."  It's not about being selfish.  It's about putting God first so that we can be Christ-strong for the purpose He's created us for.  And in doing that He will enable us to make the greatest difference in the lives of others.

SEE YOU SUNDAY.  XOXO--Kelly
